Opening your home

What it means to be a host family.

You build real relationships, offer encouragement, and play an important role in someone's journey toward independence.

Host Family Living

An adult joins your household and shares in everyday life: meals at the table, a ride to an appointment, someone to talk to at the end of the day. You provide steadiness and support. They give back more than you'd expect.

What it's really like

Ordinary days, and the moments that matter.

Day to day, you may help with meals, medication, or the occasional doctor's visit. But you'll also be there for a birthday, a first paycheck, or a milestone no one was sure would come.

From day one, our team trains you, guides you, and stays available for as long as you're a provider. Real support from people you can actually reach.

$2,000+a month for qualified providers, because your time and care have real value
70+years of Howard Prep opening doors for people with disabilities
Is this you?

You don't need a background in caregiving.

You need a steady home and an open door. This might be you if you:

  • Are at least 21
  • Have a private bedroom to offer
  • Can provide a safe, healthy home
  • Are willing to pass our screenings and complete certification
  • Have room in your life for one more person who matters
Who you'd be welcoming

Adults ready for their next step toward independence.

Home At Last participants are adults with developmental disabilities who want to move beyond group living or family dependency and into a home where they can make choices, build confidence, and take on responsibility in a safe, supportive environment.

Independent living is not only about having your own space. It is about having a voice, gaining more control of your life, and growing into the person you are becoming.
